So the election so over .. and now we're back!

We thought we'd leave it a good safe distance from the gonzo style 2021 campaign trail blog before we decided whether we should do any more content in a similar style. But some of the feedback we got after we closed out in September 2021 was genuinely surprising and showed us that there is perhaps a demand for an alternative perspective on IOM politics. So firstly thank you so much to those who took the time to drop a note across at the end and to those who subscribed to the original blog as we weren't sure how it was going to pan out. Also as we said at the time the rather direct election reportage wasn't specifically targeted at individual personalities - but if we do need to get under the lid of what we think is driving some people then equally we're not going to hold back on reporting it as we see it.

So to set the tone and way forward for this new blog - the election is now well and truly over and six weeks in it certainly feels that there is a whole pile of stuff that isn't being covered already by mainstream news sources (or even via vaguely credible sources on social media for that matter) and the perspective that we always write from attempts to be both detached and irreverent yet also precise and focused on both the personalities and the issues at stake - with a little humour and character assassination thrown in where we deem it appropriate (which is reasonably often to be fair).

On the whole we think we called the election fairly right in the end. There were only a few candidates where we didn't get it 100% right and even then we said that most of the ones we didn't support would get in as despite their obvious flaws it was clear that, for whatever insane reason, the voting public was clearly behind those candidates. And that's democracy folks - you voted for some fairly inconsequential people like Tim Glover and Stu Peters, or Jason Moorhouse, Tim Crookall and Ann Corlett as well as folks like Andrew Smith and MIchelle Haywood to lead you for the next five years so we're not here to criticise that. It was your choice and its what living in a democracy is all about. But you may well find that some recurrent themes follow over from the campaign trail blog for those very same reasons. Oh, and we guess there's going to be parts of this ongoing blog that some regular readers might not like but nevertheless we feel some things need to be objectively covered.
