As Bauhaus declared in 1982: The bats have left the bell tower. The victims have been bled. Velvet lines the black box. Bela Lugosi's dead! With the borders opening up further tomorrow and some schools already pre-declaring covid isolation regimes there will no doubt be some sort of hastily organised conference arranged for early this week - which leads us straight to the question of where is current Health Minister David Ashford MBE in the 2021 general election stakes? At the time of writing he is the most notable undeclared sitting candidate out there. So we ask is Bela Lugosi currently back in his box superficially dead, or is he quietly haunting the backstreets of Douglas North testing the commitment of his potential ballot box victims?
Let's not forget that we are now less than three-months away from general election day and its starting to look very odd that in amongst the bunch of hopeful lunatics and chancers we have seen come forward Mr Ashford is yet to publicly announce his bid for a second term. So we ask does he think he's actually on firm ground to seek re-election this time round or have all the victims already been bled and its only a climate of fear-inducing near martial law which boosts his appeal to the great Manx people? Or perhaps he already knows the answer and is just waiting for the borders to open and infection rates to go up so that the culture of fear and the public desire to seek sanctuary under his protective cape returns?
