Its as simple as that. Today Paul Moulton interviews Onchan's resident (well not strictly resident as he actually lives in Garff) Dr Evil doppelganger Peter Willers - and after a good ten minutes of telling his interviewer that everyone else in the world except him is basically incompetent or an idiot Mr Willers then chooses to cut completely across the ambitions of long term Liberal Vannin MHK Lawrie Hooper by declaring that he thinks that the best candidate for Chief Minister would in fact be himself!

We also learn during this interview that Mr Willers is apparently only standing in Onchan as Liberal Vannin Founder Peter Karran pulled out at the last minute and that, with an apparent lack of judgement many seem to be seriously questioning, Mr Karran is also personally introducing Mr Willers to the people of Onchan as effectively his political Mini-Me.
When Liberal Vannin already appears to have fallen completely down the political rabbit hole in relation to some of its chosen candidates and their mixed political and personal messaging with this interview the whole situation just seems to get curiouser and curiouser!
To summarise Mr Willers' views:
He is standing in Onchan purely because Mr Karran decided not to
Mr Karran is personally ushering his way onto the doorsteps of Onchan
Everyone else in the world is basically an idiot
Most politicians in the IOM and elsewhere are incompetent
A few civil servants may well be competent but most are basically incompetent
Anyone who is not called Peter Willers is basically a idiot
I'm that good that the only person who I would sanction being Chief Minister is me
There is little to disagree with in relation to some of the statements made regarding elements of our political system and civil service but the apparent arrogance of the man is literally staggering to listen to. It does make us wonder though if Mr Karran pitching what is in effect an anti-candidate in the general election isn't just an attempt at attacking a Liberal Vannin deserter who is also standing in Onchan but also a case of him firing a shot across the bow of the very party that he himself founded - which seems to be literally imploding amongst a backdrop of dismal attempts at courting populism as well as smatterings of hubris, claims of political deceit, and the clear inability of its current controllers to answer any straight question put to them. If the latter is the case then Mr Karran's active support for a fundamentally flawed candidate such as Mr Willers, who appears to carry more personal baggage than an Airbus A380, at least seems to have an element of strategic sense to it.
