Following our earlier always the bridesmaid and never the bride blog in relation to persistent doomed election stander Mr Ian Clanton [also known as the supreme being HM Sole] we now get the opportunity to chronicle the launch of the Douglas East campaign by serial wedding bouquet catcher and persistent political party joiner / leaver Mr Michael Josem.
Interesting too that for a man who has been invited to more parties than infamous party girl Kate Moss it’s still not 100% clear which party ticket Mr Josem is standing on as there still doesn't seem to be any official announcement from Liberal Vannin regarding his election campaign despite Mr Josem claiming on Facebook that his candidacy has been endorsed by Liberal Vannin. But readers of this blog will know that regardless of whichever ticket or platform he ultimately stands on there will be the reassurance for anyone caught within its gravitational pull that it will be always be a particularly noisy and high profile one. In fact if Liberal Vannin aren't endorsing him and QAnon are looking to establish a surreal yet populist fake news distributing movement in the Isle of Man most of his statements and activities so far would seem to perfectly fit the bill!
That said Mr Josem's general beliefs and policies have remained especially fluid up to now so naturally we also wonder what he actually stands for this week and ultimately which version of Michael Josem will be plying himself for hire in Douglas East? Will it be the liberal one with a claimed social conscience? Or will it be the Brexit loving right-wing free market one which hates government spending any money on services? Or with climate change now an important election issue perhaps we will see the emergence of a new greener MIchael Josem who will forget a lot of the climate change denial he has come up with of late in order to appeal to the burgeoning voting power of the green lobby?
Whichever version we get though rest assured we all know how it will roughly unravel in the end. We'll get to see plenty of egotistical videos, read lots of bogus statistics and ludicrous claims, and then on election night witness the inevitable cringe-worthy yet claimed heartfelt congratulation speech to whoever ultimately does win a seat in Douglas East.
So proceed with Gods speed Michael Josem candidate for Douglas East 2021 and to steal a quick few lines from Pink Floyd to summarise the ultimate inevitability of this campaign:
Come on you target for faraway laughter, Come on you stranger, you legend, you martyr, and shine!
