The papers today have been covering the various future promises and intentions of two MHKs who are currently seeking re-election in the North. But its the reality defying pronouncements of Isle of Man Meat Head, and frequently angry Professor Yaffle lookalike, Tim Baker that attracted our main attention.
Amongst listing his various achievements for IOM Newspapers Baker ends his somewhat rose-tinted self assessment of what he thinks his various successes since 2016 have been by proclaiming 'I haven't let the people of Ayre and Michael down and I won't'. Which sort of ignores the fact that the shock and awe unleashed by his department in the form of the Douglas Promenade scheme and the other random acts of infrastructural terrorism committed under his watch have badly let the whole Island down and caused the taxpaying public a lot of financial pain and hardship. Not to mention the role of his department in flooding half of nearby Laxey and the resultant total destruction of many homeowners properties in the process as well as the filling of Peel Harbour with toxic silt.
Nevertheless he clearly thinks that he has done well enough to be re-elected as he further reiterates that 'I think I've done a good job in the roles I've been given - I'm delighted to have been made Infrastructure Minister last year' which suggests to us that he's not simply a lookalike of his 1974 namesake when it comes to the making false statements.
For those unfamiliar with the Oliver Postgate Bagpuss series - Professor Yaffle was a cantankerous fussy old wooden bookend who claimed certain knowledge of plenty of erroneous facts which he regularly used to bamboozle Bagpuss and his friends with before he turned back into an inanimate object again.
