Can the real Stu Peters please stand up? Oh sadly he has!

Updated: Jul 18, 2021

There's something rather curious about former radio show host Stu Peters and his wish to stand for Middle in 2021. On one side you have the veteran radio presenter who admits himself that he's suffered three embarrassing major social media pile-on's in recent years that he believes were unfair and solely down to snowflakes who seek to find offence in anything he say's .. and then we have Stu Peters actual views .. which like an Exocet missile seem to be specifically engineered to seek out public offence wherever it may exist so that as self-proclaimed victim he can then comprehensively milk the ensuing public outrage.

We've said before that Middle seems to be rapidly descending into a Hazzard County parody with Peters playing the role of the villainous Boss Hogg - but we suppose that at least his views are consistent unlike some other 2021 General Election candidates. For instance in his Isle of Man TV interview with Paul Moulton [linked below] its clear that its very light on actual pledges or policy matters - but equally very heavy on general hyperbole and statements casually delivered for shock effect. As such he states that he wants to be a benevolent dictator for life and then says that the main problem with social media is that its full of witch-finders out to claim the scalps of people like him. But showing a distinct lack of self-awareness he then follows up by saying that he doesn't believe his views are right-wing, and that 95% of people in the IOM want an easy life but 5% just want to be noisy and shout people like him down.

Cutting through much of what he says this is clearly a man who does seem to have a bit of a problem with democracy and other peoples freedom of speech - to the point that somewhere buried in the clip is also a declaration that the problem with democracy, as Mr Peters sees it, is that you have to carry other people along with you! Perish the thought indeed!

To further show the sort of consistency we're talking about we also reproduce below an extract from a post on anonymous local bear-baiting platform ManxForums where just for good measure Mr Peters indulges in a spot of climate change denial which is preceded by him having a good go at "Greta and the Snowflakes" who he says won't vote him anyway - before moving on to admit that he believes that one MHK can likely achieve very little. Again all pure comedic hyperbole straight out of a 1998 episode of Top Gear.

The best line here is probably "Again, a candidate is in no position to promise anything, so most manifestos are at best a wish list for Santa and at worst an outright fraud" which probably explains why he is not offering solutions to anything other than resorting to the sort of sad hyperbole that will be familiar to those still following classic Top Gear on Dave, or offering up poor sensationalist humour like saying to Paul Moulton that he doesn't want to become a member of the Ministry of Funny Walks.

As with all candidates though we wish Mr Peters well and we look forward to reading his manifesto in due course. But naturally taking his own advice we likely won't believe a single word that's in it
