Today marks the announcement of probably the second most optimistic sitting candidate for re-election after Tim Baker - Ray Harmer MHK. Despite covid border restrictions it seems that Mr Harmer has finally returned from the caves of Tora Bora where he has been hiding out for the last few years to once again petition the doorsteps of the good people of Glenfaba and Peel.
Ray Harmer to seek re-election in Glenfaba & Peel.
A brief statement is also on his website
No doubt a sighting of Osama Bin Harmer will create alarm for the residents of Peel. Many of whom will be wondering where he's been and what he's done since he was last spotted in Duncan's Diner five years ago. Although by the look of the tan he's certainly not been spending too much time in gloomy Peel pandemic or not.
HIs website claims that his passion is to improve lives in whatever ways (sic) possible and to make the Island an even better place. So we ask is this really the abridged manifesto of a man who almost single-handedly destroyed most of Douglas by introducing the doomed promenade scheme which has left most of our capitals main sea frontage looking like the aftermath of an Al Qaeda rocket attack? And who then proceeded to join Cabinet Office where he oversaw returning Island residents gleefully incarcerated in a hastily knocked-up replica of the Knockaloe internment camp, and then subsequently guaranteed that for almost two years Island residents were banned from seeing any of their off Island family and friends?
Ignoring the recent past; on his website Harmer's main re-election commitment to the West seems to be to get the Peel Sewage Plant built so that for the next 50 years Peel has the capacity to store and distribute the mountains of crap generated in Peel. And lets not forget the new Peel Bridge which is being pushed as being of immense benefit to Peel's infrastructure despite the fact that it was only re-built to take the weight of trucks shuttling even more DOI generated crap out of Peel Harbour.
Dealing with self directed toxic waste seems to be a recurrent theme in his objectives for the next five years which may come as little surprise to some constituents.
We are sure the residents of Glenfaba & Peel must be waiting with baited breath to see if any more candidates emerge as outside of Kate Lord Brennan's very credible candidacy the absence of any other candidate for MHK coming forward makes either Harmer or Boot a guaranteed shoe-in for September. So we ask where is Leslie Hanson when you need him? Now there's a man not frightened of wearing his underpants outside his trousers!
