We have to say that the Isle of Man TV YouTube interview below is one of the most reasonable interviews we have seen so far. Paul Weatherall with his very broad policy brush trying to cover all in an overtly balanced and almost too polite and respectful way. This likely betrays the many years spent at a high level within UK local authorities which he refers to during the interview. Having watched the clip all the way through to be honest we find it even harder to comprehend the strange brew that is the Liberal Vannin Party which mixes an all too reasonable and balanced centrist Party Chair in Mr Weatherall, with an all too fluid and egotistical right leaning Secretary in Mr Michael Josem.
Paul Moulton gives Mr Weatherall lots of opportunities to go on the offensive especially in relation to the DOI and his main Ayre and Michael opponent Professor Yaffle but he deliberately doesn't rise to the bait at all which seems to leave Moulton slightly disappointed in places. We have to say that the uncanny resemblance to Tony Blackburn can't be ignored and as such we have to observe that Mr Weatherall does seem to exude the aura of a seasoned middle of the road Radio 2 style politician. But will he be the Ayre housewives favourite in 2021? Only time will tell but we wish him well. His chances seem good though because, after all, he is not Tim Baker which is likely to be a big draw in Ayre and Michael.
Interesting comments made towards the end about potentially re-submitting himself to a public vote as an Independent candidate if he only lasts three weeks post election like most Liberal Vannin MHKs in the last 10 years have.
We should probably open that book already!
