We note with interest today the announcement of the candidacy of IOM Green Party Election Strategist Leo Cussons for Glenfaba and Peel. In his opening salvo Mr Cussons says that he is looking to establish a new way in politics and that he wants a fair, just and sustainable future for all. And at face value who could possibly argue with any of that?
Mr Cussons previously stood in Rushen in the 2016 General Election coming last behind James Hampton, and he also contested the 2019 by-election for Malew Commissioners for the Greens. This time coming 4th just ahead of serial election stander Kevin the Oliphant [Smith] whose frequently doomed election antics we cover elsewhere in this blog.
Increasingly there's a real post pandemic vibe coming through with some of the later candidates to stand in 2021 which makes us wonder what is going to ultimately happen at the polls. Will this finally be the time for the masses to embrace some of the more caring and inclusive new world policies being pushed by the likes of the Greens, Manx Labour Party and even some of the Independent Care Bears like Tim Glover-puppet. Or will the harsh realities of significant Treasury budget shortfalls, ongoing government incompetence, and constant departmental overspends with the resultant need for us to re-start the economy at almost any cost become first and foremost in peoples minds?
This might be one of the campaigns to watch though because as overall Election Strategist for the Green Party if he makes a hash of his own campaign it's probably not going to bode that well for the Green's either who have now pitched two reasonably good candidates between Mr Cussons and Andrew Langan-Newton [who we will get round to at some point]. That said we wish him well and we hope to see his full manifesto in due course.
Remember too that this is Glenfaba and Peel and Mr Cusson's is also not Ray Harmer which should be good for a fair few votes regardless of peoples environmental credentials!
Pictured Mr Leo Cussons (and not the Godfather of Punk Mr Iggy Pop as we first thought).
